Nursery Fees

Full nursery days cost around £58 depending on the child’s age. Half day sessions cost between £19.50 and £35 depending on the age of the child and the length of the session. We offer very flexible funding arrangements for eligible children in receipt of Early Years Educational Entitlement. We accommodate both the 15 and the 30 hours funding.

Fees include all food, equipment, nappies and wipes. We do not provide baby milk. We expect parents to provide bottles of formula milk already mixed for their babies if required. We also will ask parents to provide sun cream for their child if their child requires a particular brand.

Fees are payable monthly, in advance. Fees must still be paid if children are absent for a short period of time.

Deposits:

A deposit amounting to 2 weeks fees is required to secure a nursery place; this deposit is not payment for the first month's fees. The deposit is refundable and will be returned in the last month of your child's time at The Blue Door Nursery.

Notice:

A month's notice in writing is required when you are intending for your child to leave the nursery. Alternatively, fees in lieu will be payable.

Staff Ratios

The Blue Door Nursery is regulated by the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage standards. These standards have statutory ratios for adults to children. These ratios are as follows:

  • 0-2 years = 1 adult to 3 children
  • 2-3 years = 1 adult to 4 children
  • 3-5 years = 1 adult to 8 children

If Sue, our qualified teacher is working with the pre-school children then the ratio is slightly higher. As a training nursery we often have student nursery nurses on placement with us, these students are always extra pairs of hands and are never included in our ratios. In addition we always have at least one member of the nursery management team available to assist staff, liaise with parents and ensure that the nursery runs smoothly. The addition of our nursery cook and our nursery caretaker further ensures the professional service we are able to offer to our families.

The children are grouped according to age and developmental stage. They work with the same small team of nursery nurses during their sessions enabling close bonds to be formed between staff and children.

Mealtimes

At The Blue Door Nursery we serve home cooked food using high quality ingredients. We serve nutritious food that we know our children will eat. Our early children (before 8.30am) have breakfast, we sit together for our midmorning snack and then we have a proper cooked lunch. We have our afternoon snack together, then our tea at 4.15pm, and then everyone who is going home late (after 5.00pm) has another snack. We encourage all the children to try a little taste of everything - even if they are not sure and a reward system is in place to reward the adventurous! We cater for all special diets and food preferences and our cook makes individual portions of food for babies at varying consistencies, according to stages of development. We have drinking water available to the children at all times. We use meal times to discuss healthy eating and healthy lifestyle choices, we demonstrate polite manners and conversation at mealtimes and we can brush our teeth after lunch if we have brought our toothbrush!

Allergies & Care Needs

All staff are paediatric first aid trained and we have experience of managing a range of different care needs including dietary and medical. On settling we will discuss with you at length about your child’s needs and ensure that we are able to meet them fully.

Tapestry Online Learning Journal

We use the Tapestry online Learning Journal system to observe and monitor the development of children in nursery. As a parent, you will have full access to your child’s account and will be able to follow what they are doing at nursery. You will also be able to share photographs and comments about the fun you have with your child at home!

Enrolment

Before your child starts with us on their own we will go through a period of 'settling in' with you and your child. We will welcome you to the nursery for lots of visits and gradually introduce the idea to your child that they will stay at nursery without you. This process can take a few days for some children and a few weeks for others. We will be guided through the settling process by your child and how they are feeling. We will not hurry the settling process. We will talk to you at length about your child's likes and dislikes, about their favourite toys, games and activities and we will encourage you to ask questions and make suggestions to help your child settle.

When your child has been at nursery for a few weeks one of the staff from your child's team will telephone you to make sure that you are happy and to make sure that everything is running smoothly. Don't be afraid to ask questions!

When your child starts at The Blue Door Nursery please ensure that they have the following items which will be needed on a daily basis:
